S.G. Rao Military Hotel Rajajinagar Review: My Experience with Traditional Nati-Style Food
When it comes to Bengaluru food, some of the most memorable experiences come from places that focus more on flavour and tradition than fancy interiors. S.G. Rao Military Hotel in Rajajinagar is one such place I visited with friends, and it gave me an opportunity to enjoy traditional Karnataka-style non-vegetarian food.
The place has a simple setup, but the food is what really caught my attention. From Mutton Pulav and Mutton Kheema to Chicken Udayagiri, Green Chicken and Ragi Mudde, there was plenty to explore.
What I enjoyed most was the authentic taste and the traditional way of serving the food. There are no elaborate interiors here. Instead, the food is served on traditional leaf plates, adding to the overall experience.
For me, Mutton Pulav, Mutton Kheema and Chicken Udayagiri were the highlights.
My Visit to S.G. Rao Military Hotel
I personally visited S.G. Rao Military Hotel in Rajajinagar with my friends.
I was looking forward to trying traditional non-vegetarian dishes, and the restaurant did not disappoint when it came to variety.
The overall atmosphere was simple and focused on food rather than décor. There were no fancy interiors, which I actually found to be part of the charm.
The place became quite crowded by noon during my visit, but the service was good and quick.
For me, the experience was less about a polished restaurant setting and more about enjoying traditional food with friends.
Traditional Food and Simple Ambience
One of the first things I noticed was the simple ambience.
You won’t find a luxurious or heavily decorated dining space here. Instead, the focus is clearly on the food.
Another detail I liked was the use of traditional leaf plates for serving the food. It added a rustic touch to the meal and made the experience feel different from a typical modern restaurant.
For someone who enjoys traditional food experiences, these small details can make a meal more memorable.
What We Ordered
We tried several dishes during our visit:
- Mutton Pulav
- Mutton Kheema
- Leg Soup
- Green Chicken
- Chicken Kurma
- Chicken Udayagiri
- Ragi Mudde
Having several dishes on the table allowed us to experience different flavours and textures.
The food had the kind of authentic taste I was hoping for, particularly in the traditional Karnataka-style non-vegetarian preparations.
Mutton Pulav – One of My Favourites
The Mutton Pulav was one of my favourite dishes from the meal.
The combination of rice and mutton made it a satisfying part of the lunch. I particularly enjoyed the flavour of the preparation, which felt traditional rather than overly modernised.
For me, this was one of the dishes that represented the kind of food experience I had come looking for.
If I return to S.G. Rao Military Hotel, Mutton Pulav would definitely be on my repeat-order list.
Mutton Kheema
The Mutton Kheema was another dish I really enjoyed.
It had a rich, meaty character and worked well as part of the larger meal.
I particularly liked having the kheema alongside the other dishes because it brought a different texture and flavour to the table.
Along with Mutton Pulav, this was one of my personal highlights.
Chicken Udayagiri – A Dish I Would Order Again
Another dish that stood out to me was Chicken Udayagiri.
I enjoyed its flavour and found it to be one of the more memorable chicken preparations we tried.
In fact, Chicken Udayagiri paired with Mutton Kheema was one of my favourite combinations from the meal.
It was also one of the reasons I would happily try this place again.
Green Chicken and Chicken Kurma
We also ordered Green Chicken and Chicken Kurma.
These gave us two different chicken preparations to explore during the meal.
Having multiple curries and meat dishes on the table made the lunch feel varied, and we could share everything among ourselves.
I enjoyed getting to taste different preparations rather than sticking to just one main dish.
Leg Soup and Ragi Mudde
The meal also included Leg Soup and Ragi Mudde, giving us a chance to try some more traditional combinations.
Ragi Mudde is a familiar part of Karnataka food culture, and having it alongside non-vegetarian preparations made the meal feel particularly rooted in local cuisine.
The Leg Soup added another element to the meal and made the overall spread even more diverse.
Authentic Karnataka-Style Flavours
Mutton Pulav, Mutton Kheema, and Chicken Udayagiri are my favorites.
I enjoy food that has a strong regional identity, and the dishes here gave me that traditional Karnataka-style experience I was looking for.
Rather than focusing on elaborate presentation, the meal was about the flavours and the food itself.
The combination of meat dishes, Ragi Mudde and traditional serving style created an experience that felt connected to Bengaluru’s older food culture.
Service and Crowd
The service was good and quick during my visit.
However, the restaurant became more crowded by noon.
Since we visited with friends, we were able to enjoy the meal despite the increasing crowd. If you prefer a quieter dining experience, it may be worth considering the timing of your visit.
My experience was still positive overall because the service remained efficient.
Would I Visit Again?
Yes, definitely.
I enjoyed the food, the traditional atmosphere and the overall experience of eating with friends.
My favourites were:
🥘 Mutton Pulav
🥘 Mutton Kheema
🍗 Chicken Udayagiri
If I visit again, these are the dishes I would be particularly interested in ordering.
I would also like to explore more of the traditional dishes on the menu.
